Properganda

The new issue of Properganda has arrived!

Properganda 13

As you can see, the cover artist for this issue is one Martin Simpson, famed for his guitaring and sing playing abilities.

Also featured are Loudon Wainwright III, Billy Bob Thornton, Real World Records and their artists, Topic’s 70th anniversary box set (you’ll hear more about this later) and the usual bucketload of reviews.

The mag will be available at your local good record shop or venue by the end of next week so make sure you pick yourself up a copy.

You can also read the online version by clicking here.

Don’t forget that you can enter our competition to win yourself every CD reviewed in the magazine too!  Just click here to visit our website.

Gadzooks!  The new issue of Properganda, after months of sweat and turmoil, will be available very shortly.  We just have a delivery to our warehouse of the edition which looks like this:

Properganda 12 - May/June '09

Properganda 12 - May/June '09

As you can see, this issue’s cover artist is Nick Lowe but fear not, for there are also features on Mawkin:Causley, Uiscedwr, Sara Tavares, Justin Adams & Juldeh Camara and loads more.

The mag will be available in shops and ready to go into your hands (with the words ready to go into your eyes) within the next week, as soon as yours truly has spent a couple of days in the warehouse with a tape gun boxing them up.  The online edition will also be available next week, once said truly has compiled all the relevant links.

Don’t forget, of course, as always we have our competition to win EVERY CD reviewed in the magazine.  Usually that’s at least 50 CDs, i was just about to count the number of CDs reviewed but the boss is looking and if i keep typing i’ll look more busy.  You can enter the competition by clicking on these three words.

If you’re not quite finished with the previous issue, or would like to see our back issues, you can do so by visiting the Properganda branch of this very blog, where this edition will soon appear in all its digital glory.

You have read correctly, the new issue of Properganda is now out, number 11 no less.  It looks a little something like this:

Properganda 11

However, it also looks a little something like this:

Properganda 11It depends on your perspective.

As you can see from the pictures, joint cover stars are Irish silk-larynxed songstress Cara Dillon and English imaginatively hair-brained songster Jon Boden but the issue also features Lau, Under One Sky, Diana Jones, Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu, Ruthie Foster and a plethora of others.

As always, the mag is free and available from any good record shop, venue or festival (unless it’s a festival with a great line-up but the people in charge of distributing the magazines are useless morons).  You might also be handed one at a gig by a member of our street team.

But of course, as we live in the age of technological things, you can also read the magazine online.  And not just this one, you can take a look at all our back issues if you click here.

Don’t forget, as always, you have the chance to win every CD reviewed in the magazine by taking a trip over to our website.  I’d wish you good luck but if I did then that would suggest that I hope everyone who enters would win.  This isn’t ideal for us, firstly as it would probably bankrupt the company, and secondly because it would then no longer be a competition, as the competitive element would be removed.

After as much anticipation as is usually anticipated, the new issue of Properganda will be out next week! (Week Commencing Monday 26th Jan.)

I can reveal that we will once more be producing a push-me-pull-you cover (ie two front covers at either side of the magazine) with the two cover stars being Cara Dillon and Jon Boden.

It will as usual be jam-packed full of reviews for some of the fantastic artists we distribute, with an online version available with links to their websites, buy links and, new and most excitingly, audio clips so you can hear what they sound like!

Hello One and All!

This is my first ever blog post, so please be gentle! I’ve just spent the weekend with the lads working on a photoshoot for fRoots Magazine and an interview with the delightful Colin Irwin.

I’ve always found interviews very hard to get right, I’m quite an informal kind of guy and it only takes a friendly voice, a pint of something nice and I’m chatting like a clucking hen round the knitting table. I often leave interviews trying to remember everything I’ve said and then working out whether it would be perceived by someone as good, bad or ugly. This time I didn’t feel like that as it wasn’t just me spilling the beans! We had just finished a very daring (I’m not saying anymore) photoshoot and we were in fine spirits, on empty stomachs we started on the beers! Then the gossip started flowing. Colin bought us another round and then it was like being in your living room chatting to an old friend! Soon enough it was all over and for the life of me I can’t remember what we said!

I can never judge what a photoshoot is going to be like either, sometimes I pack my wardrobe and the photographer tells me to take off all my clothes and drag myself across the sand! Other occasions your up a tree trying not to look like a cliché! Its madness, but great fun. I think what I love about photoshoots is that you essentially spend the whole day ‘dressing up’ and looking ‘cool’. Its like a little taste of being a rock star!

So, its going to be an interesting read- Mawkin:Causley front cover of April issue fRoots Magazine.

WATCH THIS SPACE!

We got some gigs coming up, Mawkin @ Cecil Sharp House, Mawkin:Causley @ Winchester University! ….also were supporting Edward the 2nd on March 4th…should be a cracker..

See ya around.

The album has already been picking up some quality reviews from the mainstream and folk press alike, with Word magazine calling it “easily her most gripping album yet”.
